Mathematics

 

GCSE 

This unit covers topics for Number, Algebra and Rates of change, as described in the national curriculum for KS4 Mathematics up to Higher Tier GCSE in line with the grade 9-1 specification. The areas covered include properties and representations of real numbers, including rules of arithmetic applied to calculations and manipulations with real numbers. Students also learn the use of standard index forms. Direct and inverse proportions are explored, along with proportional change and exponential growth. Further topics include linear and quadratic equations and graphs, as well as trigonometric functions and simple logic.

Functional Skills

This unit covers topics for Numbers and Algebra, as described in the national curriculum for Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3 and Functional skills levels 1 and 2.  At Entry levels 1, 2 and 3, the topics covered include place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of whole numbers up to three digits, as well as simple sequences and use of fractions and decimals. 

 

At  Functional Skills levels 1 and 2, in addition to those listed above the areas covered are working with negative numbers in context, application of equivalent fractions, adding, subtracting and multiplying fractions, decimals and percentages, working with negative numbers in context, calculations of ratio, proportion and scale diagram, as well as use of simple equations and formulae.
