Overview

Our SEND curriculum specialist provision is broad and balanced and tailored to meet the needs of each individual children and young people (CYP). We focus on developing the key skills of communication, cognition, independence, physical development and self-care.

Our curriculum has two pathways, the engagement pathway and the subject based pathway.

Engagement curriculum pathway:

  • My communication
  • My outdoor school
  • My physical well-being
  • My independence
  • My play & leisure

Subject based curriculum pathway

  • Maths
  • English
  • Independence
  • Physical well-being
  • The world about us

Assessment

  • Personalised teaching and learning is assessed against SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, and Transactional Support).
  • Progress must also be considered in relation to EHCP and annual review outcomes.
  • Evidence towards assessment is recorded using Evidence for Learning software. This evidence includes photographs, videos and written observations.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), at Education Links, provides small nurturing, highly skilled alternative provision for pupils who cannot cope in mainstream schools. It has a small number of permanent classes for pupils with severe needs.

  • We also have a number of other short term provisions where mainstream pupils who are not coping can be referred for short term help and support.
  • We have specialist SEND provision at our East Ham site, for pupils with a range of difficulties, including SEMH, ASC and ADHD.
  • Our specialist provision also caters for a small number of pupils with complex, non-verbal Autism.
  • Our staff are experienced in supporting young people who are dealing with several vulnerabilities that impact on their learning.
  • Through building strong working relationships with students, and with their families,  we can address these vulnerabilities directly, or by liaison with external agencies.
